Honest Guide to Beijing Nightclubs and Gongti Nightlife

For anyone looking to experience the heartbeat of the capital's after-hours culture, Beijing's nightlife scene offers an incredibly diverse array of choices. The city's clubbing ecosystem ranges from the high-octane commercial EDM mega-clubs of the Workers' Stadium (Gongti) West Road to the stylish lounges of Sanlitun, student-centric spots in Wudaokou, and underground techno basements hidden in art districts.

This guide leverages real-world experiences and on-the-ground reviews from local clubgoers to help you navigate Beijing's nightlife zones, find your favorite music style, and avoid common nightlife traps.

1. The Commercial EDM Mega-Clubs

If your idea of a perfect night is a massive indoor festival with state-of-the-art laser shows, heavy bass, and booming sound systems, Gongti West Road is your primary destination.

• Supermiami As currently the largest club in Beijing (formerly known as OT), Supermiami is the ultimate high-energy commercial venue. It is highly famous for its massive spring dancefloor (弹簧舞池) which physically bounces with the beat, making it highly interactive and liberating for dancers. It boasts holographic projections, professional lasers, and dynamic LED lighting. Unlike some exclusive clubs nearby, Supermiami is praised for being highly inclusive with no visual screening/look-screening (不卡颜) at standard entry points, although its outer rings feature high-end business booths.
• AURA Transitioning from its older "West Coast" style, AURA has successfully embraced Korean bounce, pop, and K-pop music (especially on weekends). It attracts a very young, energetic crowd largely composed of local university students. Note that it features highly compact booths and enforces strict ID registration via the digital Jingtong app.
• BLINK (CRAYOKE & BLINK) Popular with a trendy young demographic, BLINK features a heavy electro setup. The venue is split into two zones: a visual-centric main hall with interactive DJs and high-颜值 (attractive) staff, and a premium KTV/private room zone with high-end service.

Supermiami Table & Booth Pricing Guide

To help you budget, here are the standard minimum spend (低消) thresholds for Supermiami:

Note: standard standing tables on weekdays have dynamic low-to-no minimum spends, but holiday and peak weekend bookings require upfront deposits to secure slots.

2. The Hip-Hop and Rap Scene

For those who prefer old-school vinyl scratch, trap, and active dance cyphers over commercial synthetic beats, Beijing has several dedicated hip-hop institutions.

• PH Beijing (PH Group) Reopened as Beijing’s premier pure Hip-Hop-style club, PH remains an absolute institution for international students, local hip-hop heads, and rappers. The venue hosts frequent live rap sets and even utilizes giant screens to broadcast major sports events like the European Cup.
  • Pricing Caveat: PH has a significantly higher pricing threshold than standard clubs in the area. Weekday standing tables start at 1,500 RMB (3,000 RMB on weekends), while the exclusive B Front Area minimum spend ranges from 10,000 RMB (weekdays) to 15,000 RMB (weekends).
• GoFancy Located on Gongti West Road, this cozy "small hall" concept is highly praised by dancers. GoFancy is famous for its pure hip-hop music curation and intense, tight dance cyphers ("once the circle opens, there are no spectators"). Be prepared for extremely packed, high-energy crowds.
• YAO (YAOCLUB) Formerly known as PH, YAO offers a highly budget-friendly, student-focused alternative in Gongti. While its decor, lighting, and sound are relatively simple, it plays an energetic blend of hip-hop, rap, and popular Douyin hits. It is a popular spot for university students looking for a fun night out without high minimum spending.

3. Underground Techno & Rave Culture

For music purists who despise commercial tables, bottle-popping, and phone-scrolling, Beijing hosts a highly respected underground electronic subculture.

• Pillbox Considered Beijing’s equivalent to Shanghai's raw techno havens, Pillbox is celebrated for its uncompromising music and community feel. It is famous for hosting raw, high-energy "blood raves" and alternative dance parties.
• Zhaodai (招待所) A beloved sanctuary for local techno purists. Zhaodai is celebrated for its dark, genuine underground atmosphere, excellent booking of local and visiting DJs, and an active, respectful dance floor.
• Groundless Factory (莫须有工厂) Located in the industrial-meets-artistic 798 Art District, this venue regularly collaborates with international electronic music labels and legendary global techno clubs (such as Berlin's Tresor).
• Rugs\* A newly opened venue situated on the second floor of SOLO on Jiangtai Road. Modeled closely after Berlin's famous OHM club, Rugs* features top-tier sound equipment (including Xone96 mixers) and accommodates vinyl DJs spinning a refined mix of Techno, House, Disco, and Jazz.

4. Inclusive Spaces, Livehouses, and Aesthetic Lounges

If you prefer live vocals, diverse social crowds, or laid-back outdoor conversations, the following spaces represent the highly diverse lifestyle of the city:

• Destination (Des) Widely loved for being the most inclusive, friendly, and welcoming club in Beijing. Destination features multiple dance halls—including its highly famous K-pop hall and the mysterious "Anyu" dance floor—providing a highly positive, body-anxiety-free environment popular with LGBTQ+ clubgoers.
• Touch (Touch/Rizz) Famous for its exceptionally high-颜值 (visually attractive) and physically fit crowd. It features high-energy, late-night dancing where shirt-off crowds and high-vibe circles gather.
  • Tip: Veteran clubgoers warn that Touch's cocktails are highly diluted and slow to intoxicate; pre-drinking before arrival is highly recommended.
• 花海EGO LiveClub Located at The Place (世贸天街), this massive, pillar-free livehouse features stunning visual design with laser light pillars, neon flowers, and massive LED screens. It alternates every 30 minutes between rotating live singer sets (starting at 21:30) and high-energy EDM DJ sets.
• LUST (Sanlitun) An outstanding, highly aesthetic lounge featuring warm red lighting, live bands, and a highly pet-friendly policy. Sitting in its comfortable outdoor garden during autumn is perfect for date nights and relaxed conversations.
• 顶楼 (Penthouse) Having relocated from Gulou to Longfusi, this top-tier rooftop lounge is the local favorite for shisha, casual cocktails, and relaxing to chill weekend music.

5. Nightlife Survival Tips: Avoid the Traps

To ensure your night in Beijing is memorable for all the right reasons, keep these practical survival strategies in mind:

1. Book Ahead on Weekends: If you want a booth or table (卡座) on a Friday or Saturday night, walk-ins will almost certainly be turned away. Book at least 1 day in advance through an official promoter. Avoid street promoters or unauthorized third-party touts waiting outside venue gates.
2. Watch the Dress Code: Mid-to-high-end clubs (such as PH or high-end EDM spaces) do enforce neat, stylish dress codes. Do not wear slippers or athletic singlets.
3. Prepare for "Look-Screening" (卡颜局): Be aware that trendy, high-end group tables at clubs like PH Beijing, Inso, or AURA may perform aesthetic screening, filtering guests by appearance and social etiquette.
4. Carry Digital ID Verification: Keep your passport or local digital ID registration (such as the Jingtong app) ready. Clubs like AURA enforce highly strict facial/identity registration at the door.
5. Dodge Black Cabs: Never board the unlicensed "black cabs" (黑车) waiting outside major club strips like Gongti West Road. Stick to official ride-hailing apps or metered taxis.
6. Smoke and Crowds: Expect very dense crowds and heavy second-hand smoke inside almost all main-strip commercial venues. Keep your personal belongings (phones, wallets) secure at all times." "tags": [ "Beijing Nightlife
